Taking control of our lives can be no easy task, and it’s goals-dependent.
Everybody has to find a goal in order to achieve something. They help us find whatever we want to experience in this life in terms of principles and values.
What are life goals?
From my own experience, I can tell you that a life goal will create a greater purpose for you to achieve in order to become the version of yourself that you’re always dreaming about.
These are meaningful objectives that can help someone to build a path full of beautiful experiences.
And they can take many forms, from spirituality to getting your first million dollars.
I would always feel lost, sleep in and end up being miserable at the end of the day, only because I didn’t have any goals set, and because of this, I couldn’t find my place.
Writing on a piece of paper what I would like to achieve and slowly working towards building that one thing would help me wake up in the morning with a purpose, therefore having a feeling of doing something more significant.
With this “feeling” inside you, it will be easier to prosper in all the subjects you want to learn.
Goals gave me a sense of direction, and they still do when I’m feeling like giving up on something.
With each step built to achieving a goal, opportunities, people, events began to appear in my life, making everything worth living.
Why should you set a life goal?
- They can clear your path;
When you set a goal, the next thing you will have to do is craft it. Different questions will begin to arise by preparing your plan, like “how?, what?, and why?,” which give you the answers to your aspirations.
By focusing on building a goal, your life will be affected in a positive way, motivating you to create more and more.
Committing to something can give us a sense of control over our own lives.
- They help you know yourself better;
When you know where you want to be, it will be easier for you to realize where you are at the present moment; therefore, you can track your evolution. By monitoring your development, you will begin to be more aware of your behavior and what has to be changed in order to build the next step towards getting the crown.
- They can build confidence/happiness.
Waking up to the daily grind over and over again can be exhausting and can tear down the trust in yourself.
Setting up a goal is different from grinding “the daily life”; it can give you a purpose. If you make your life meaningful, you will be happier about yourself, becoming more confident in your powers.
I would stray so much by just “living life” until I added that instrument in my life, this blog. You can pick up anything, don’t quit on your dreams.
Life goal ideas: 5 Life Goals to Achieve
Goals should be meaningful to yourself.
According to Kasser & Ryan (1993, 1996, 2001; Ryan & Deci, 2017), there are two types of goals:
- Intrinsic life goals (personal growth, relationships, community giving, and health);
- Extrinsic life goals (wealth, fame, and image) differentially relate to psychological well-being.
Intrinsic goals: These goals are all about doing or chasing something that’s personally meaningful to you. These goals fuel your core needs and wants – who you are as a person. They pertain to your passions, interests, and core values, as well as your relationships and your personal growth.
Extrinsic goals: These goals help you achieve something outside of yourself. They are often about obtaining other people’s validation and approval or external signs of self-worth.
This is the most important goal you can work on.
Working daily towards being healthier creates a better environment for you to successfully and efficiently work on your dreams.
How can you be healthier?
- Drink more water;
Drinking water represents a list full of benefits. The recommended amount is eight daily glasses of water.
- Eat breakfast;
Breakfast replenishes the stores of energy and nutrients in your body.
- Log your meals;
A log is a list of what you eat and drink each day. The log helps you and your doctor understand your eating habits. It can help you realize what you consume. Once you know this, you can make changes to your diet to improve your health.
Exercising regularly can improve your sleep, boost your energy levels, improve your mood, can control your weight.
Stretching keeps the muscles flexible, strong, and healthy, and we need that flexibility to maintain a range of motion in the joints. Without it, the muscles shorten and become tight. Then, when you call on the muscles for activity, they are weak and unable to extend all the way. That puts you at risk for joint pain, strains, and muscle damage.
- Breathing exercises;
Or meditation can reduce the stress levels in your body, lower your heart rate, lower your blood pressure, reduce depression.
Learn about breathing techniques.
- Create a morning routine;
This can help you set the tone for the day, allowing you to take control.
- Sleep more.
Getting enough sleep helps you get sick less often, stay at a healthy weight, lower your risk for serious health problems, reduce stress, improve mood, think clearly, get along with other people, and make better decisions.
Self-development and setting goals can help you achieve even greater goals.
If you want to nourish your mind, then:
- Shorten the online time on your devices;
Every time when you wake up, your mind begins the race. Thinking about your past, present, and future, the bad and the good.
To set a more positive tone in the morning, which can help you have a more productive, focused, and optimistic day, you should try to set aside 10 minutes for yourself.
- Read 30 pages per day;
Improvements come from knowledge and experiences.
Knowledge can create new experiences.
Experiences come in time.
Knowledge can appear from everything. The best way to gain new knowledge is through reading.
This will improve your vocabulary, memory, writing, and communication skills.
As a blogger, the art of writing is the most important thing you can work on. But this is for me.
Journaling can help with your communication skills, but the most important thing, it can help you discharge/unburden the negative thoughts and emotions that accumulate in your mind and run on a loop until dealt with.
It’s an excellent way to express your thoughts and ideas.
Do it every day.
- Limit screen time;
Social media, where we can feel important until it’s turned off. Don’t get me wrong, but social media can be linked to an increase in loneliness and depression – talking from my own experience.
Turn off your device one hour before going to sleep to have a night of more quality sleep. Blue light from your devices might suppress melatonin levels and delay your schedule.
- The alarm goes off; you go up;
This can be good for your mind, body & soul.
You will create a schedule by waking up at similar times each day, and in time from being groggy all the time, you will begin feeling refreshed. It also builds discipline.
- Get yourself a day off.
Look after yourself. You deserve it.
Yes, I know…” Love yourself,” can you give me a break?
But, how many times didn’t you find yourself in certain situations you wouldn’t like to take part in?
How many times did you let people step on your boundaries?
If you begin working on yourself and start loving what you are, then, believe me, you will set boundaries like no other.
So how can you do that?
- Show appreciation for what you have already achieved;
Everybody has their own path in this life. Don’t compare your person to someone else; instead, appreciate the things you have already learned, experienced.
- Let go of your past;
There’s no reason to stay there anymore. You made a mistake; we all make mistakes. Learn from it and move on. Take the lesson and don’t repeat it.
- Focus on yourself;
Selflove comes from trusting yourself more. Do the things you love on a continuous basis, build yourself, discipline yourself, and you will find yourself living the life of your dreams in no time.
- Go on a date.
Build that confidence through repeated experiences.
- Improve your knowledge;
- Automate your tasks;
- Use tools to help you run through the day;
- Manage your time. Use the 80/20 rule;
- Prioritize. Identify and pursue the most urgent tasks first because they take the most energy, and you might skip them if you do not have the required energy later.
Setting a career goal is important, as it helps propel yourself to accomplish them.
Some examples of career goals would be to:
- Improve professional knowledge;
- Increase earnings;
- Have new experiences;
- Attain a manager role.
